Bhashini, which won the 2025 businessline changemaker award for digital transformation, is striving to achieve 100 per cent accuracy in language translation and add more languages on its platform, said Amitabh Nag, CEO of the company. Currently, the platform has 22 regional languages which users can translate.

“It’s a great moment now that we are receiving the changemakers award. We are making the difference in life of common people in terms of ease of living or other aspects. We do voice to text (translation), text to text and text to speech as our core business, which brings together digital inclusivity and people who are on other side of literacy or who face language divide,” he told businessline.

“The challenge is when you are building AI models you need digital data and AI is always improving. So we need people to get together to support us with data and feedback,” Nag said, adding that Bhashini today gets around 20 million translation requests each day.

When asked whether new age AI tools like ChatGPT, Gemini or Perplexity are competitors to the company, Nag said while every tool is doing different tasks, Bhashini was the first to introduce 22 different regional languages for translation to public, enabling inclusivity.

“When everyone was talking about text to text translation, we launched voice translation first. This brought more people into digital fold. We are obviously striving for 100 per cent accuracy. Obviously, it will take some time because that’s the nature of the beast and we have to strive to invest on it and take feedback very seriously,” he said.

Bhashini has over 1 million downloads, according to its website, and over 100 different use cases.
