Week 6 NFL betting preview, picks
Pittsburgh Steelers -4.5 vs. Cleveland Browns | 1 p.m. ET | Sunday, Oct. 12
Aaron Rodgers has guided the Steelers to a 3-1 start in his first season in Pittsburgh, and now they’ll come off a bye week to tango with their old AFC North rivals. Cleveland is 1-4 coming off a loss in London to the Vikings, but the Browns did compete well in Dillon Gabriel’s debut as a starting quarterback. However, the Steelers have had an extra week to prepare for Gabriel and the Browns, and they’ve been opportunistic defensively all year, forcing 10 turnovers in their first four games. The model has Pittsburgh covering in 61% of simulations.
Over 43.5 points: Green Bay Packers vs. Cincinnati Bengals | 4:25 p.m. ET | Sunday, Oct. 12
It’s been a rollercoaster season for both franchises, with Green Bay looking like one of the best teams in the NFL after wins over Detroit and Washington before suffering a stunning loss to Cleveland and then an unusual tie in Dallas. Meanwhile, the Bengals looked like they had learned their lesson after a sluggish start kept them out of the playoffs last year and raced out to a 2-0 start, but have struggled with Jake Browning filling in for Joe Burrow (toe) and are now 2-3. However, both of these offenses have the ability to be prolific in stretches, and the model is predicting this Over hits in 64% of simulations.
Washington Commanders (-4.5) vs. Chicago Bears | 8:15 p.m. ET | Monday, Oct. 13
Last year’s matchup was a strange one because the Commanders dominated statistically, but couldn’t create much separation on the scoreboard. Then the Bears got a few timely plays late to take the lead and should have had the game won if not for their horrid Hail Mary coverage. Ben Johnson’s already done a lot to change the culture in Chicago, and Washington might not be quite as hot as it was a year ago, but the Commanders are still further ahead at this stage with Jayden Daniels at the helm than the Bears are with Caleb Williams. Washington covers the spread in 58% of simulations, and this is one of SportsLine’s A-rated Week 6 NFL picks.
