By DayakDaily Team KUCHING, Oct 30: Business Events Sarawak (BESarawak) marks a new chapter with the appointment of Datu Hii Chang Kee as its new chairman of the board of directors, effective Nov 1. Minister for Tourism, Creative Industry and Performing Arts Sarawak Dato Sri Abdul Karim Rahman Hamzah said the appointment of Hii is timely and strategic. “His position within government enables him to bridge strategy and execution, ensuring that Sarawak becomes an international model of inclusive leadership where collaboration between government and industry drives sustainable growth,” he said in a press release issued today. Also the Deputy Sarawak State Secretary (Operation), Hii oversees public communication, service transformation, innovation and digitalisation. He succeeds Dato Sri Abang Haji Abdul Karim, who retired in August, and aims to lead BESarawak to become Malaysia’s top convention bureau and a regional hub for legacy-driven events. Hii said his focus will be on positioning Sarawak as a destination for impactful and legacy-driven business events in line with the Post-COVID-19 Development Strategy 2030 (PCDS 2030). “Over the next five years, we will align plans to transform Sarawak into a business events destination of high strategic value. “Our direction will be guided by three pillars – transformation and innovation, impact and legacy, and partnerships and people,” he elaborated. BESarawak chief executive officer Amelia Roziman said Hii’s appointment marks a new chapter for Sarawak’s business events industry, balancing continuity with fresh ambition to elevate Sarawak’s global competitiveness. With over 30 years in public service, Hii has led major tourism initiatives including the Sarawak Tourism Master Plan 2021-2035, chaired the Legacy Event Advocacy Policy (LEAP) Summit that produced the Borneo Legacy Declaration and contributed to projects such as the Borneo Cultures Museum. — DayakDaily
