LOADINGERROR LOADING Sen. Bernie Sanders (I-Vt.) is getting real about why he thinks former Vice President Kamala Harris lost against President Donald Trump in the 2024 presidential campaign. Appearing on “The Tim Dillon Show” Wednesday, Sanders claimed that Harris didn’t tend to the needs of working class Americans enough, noting Trump triumphed in the election because of “money in politics.” Advertisement The conversation kicked off after host Tim Dillion said that “a lot of people” were “shocked” that the Democratic party “put out” former President Joe Biden as a “candidate with clear cognitive issues.” “And then without a primary, Kamala Harris, who was relatively unpopular in the Democratic primaries, was then the candidate. And she only had 90 days to sell herself to the American people. And by the way, she did a decent job for [only] having 90 days,” Dillion continued. Dillion went on to ask Sanders, “Why is there such a cover-up with Biden’s mental decline? Why is there no primary, a quick one even, after he is judged unfit to run? Why is there no transparency there? That’s a huge problem.” Advertisement Calling Harris, whom he ran against in the 2020 presidential election, an “incredibly intelligent” and “focused” individual, Sanders flat out told Dillion that the downfall of her campaign was not tackling the real issues that working class Americans are up against, including health care and housing. “I think the reason that she lost that election gets back to the point we discussed at the beginning of this podcast and that is money in politics,” he said. “Kamala did not run a campaign focused on the needs of the working class, didn’t run a campaign focused on health care, on economics and raising the minimum wage, on paid family and medical leave, on housing, on all of the issues that working people are struggling with right now.” Advertisement Biden dropped his reelection bid in late July 2024 after a ruinous debate against Trump in June, leaving Harris just a couple of months to forge a campaign. The Vermont senator added, “And I think her not focusing on those issues allowed Trump to win, in my view.” Appearing on ABC’s “The View” last month, Harris was asked what she thought was the “primary reason” she didn’t win the race. Advertisement “There are many factors I think that played into the outcome of that election, but, I think probably one of the biggest in my mind is we just didn’t have enough time,” Harris replied.
