Bengaluru corporation begins repair of Panathur, Balagere and Vibgyor roads

Bengaluru: After years of delay, the Bengaluru East City Corporation has finally initiated repair works on three crucial stretches — Panathur Road, Balagere Main Road, and Vibgyor School Road. Residents had long complained about the dilapidated state of these roads, which also lacked proper roadside drains. Repair works underway According to officials, Panathur Road has been asphalted from the Outer Ring Road (ORR) to the railway underpass, while Balagere Main Road is undergoing white-topping. Vibgyor School Road has also been resurfaced. However, residents have voiced concerns that road widening up to Varthur is essential to ease chronic congestion in the Mahadevapura zone. Citizen concerns over road quality Members of civic groups say the work is incomplete without addressing other pending stretches. Clement Jayakumar, a member of the Mahadevapura Taskforce collective, pointed out that no grants had been allocated for Munnekolala and the 150-foot CDP roads. “So far, the corporation has asphalted Panathur Road from the ORR to the railway underpass and is white-topping Balagere Road. To ease congestion, these roads need to be widened up to Varthur,” he said. Additionally, the quality of asphalting on Panathur Road has raised questions. Users noted visible gaps in the paved surface, suggesting incorrect gradation of asphalt, which could lead to early wear and tear. Demand for more funds Local collectives are urging the civic body to sanction additional grants for repairing damaged stretches across Mahadevapura, many of which remain neglected despite years of complaints. While the ongoing work marks progress, residents remain sceptical about both the durability of the repairs and the lack of comprehensive planning. Without road widening, proper drainage, and stricter quality checks, citizens fear the newly repaired stretches may soon return to their earlier state.
