Benalmadena launches ninth year of Ruta de la Tapa de Cine with record tapas

Benalmadena is cooking up some treats for an unforgettable culinary celebration as it kicks off the ninth year of the Ruta de la Tapa de Cine, which runs from October 31 to November 8. This year’s event boasts a record-breaking participation of more than 30 local establishments across the town’s three distinct areas: Benalmadena Costa, Arroyo de la Miel, and Benalmadena Pueblo. Organised by Benalmadena Council, the route hopes to invigorate the local economy during the low season while showing off the town’s rich gastronomic selection mixed in with movie themes. Everyone can savour a specially designed tapa coupled with a beverage for just €3 at each participating venue. The tapas, inspired by iconic films, highlight creativity, flavour, and presentation, turning every bite into a hat-tip to the silver screen. Other than the food, the event promises to be an entertaining experience with live acts, including a talented saxophonist performing movie soundtracks known by everyone that will evoke a touch of nostalgia and excitement. Establishments will transform into cinematic havens, offering a mix of gastronomy, culture, and leisure in a unique atmosphere designed to draw crowds and encourage a little community spirit. Participation is encouraged through the “tapaporte” passport system, where attendees collect stamps on a little booklet from at least five venues to enter a raffle for a weekend stay in a charming holiday apartment in Benalmadena. The draw will coincide with the awards ceremony honouring the top tapas. Judges will award cash prizes of €400 for first place, €250 for second, and €100 for third and will be publicly recognised for their excellence in innovation, taste, and aesthetics. This year’s record signing up means the heat is on in the kitchen to come up with the best tapita for the Ruta de la Tapa de Cine, which has evolved into a mainstay event since its inception. The initiative not only supports small businesses during quieter months but also brings out the town’s appeal as a year-round destination, with a little Andalusian hospitality mixed with creative inventiveness. As the saxophonist’s melodies echo through the streets and tapas tempt the palate, the Ruta de la Tapa de Cine invites everyone to join in the fun. Whether you’re a film buff, a food enthusiast, or simply seeking a good night out, the nine-day festival promises delicious discoveries and memorable moments.
