The Chicago Bears’ offense still is trying to find its footing under head coach Ben Johnson. The mental mistakes and an insufficient run game are certainly impacting how Johnson wants this unit to look, but there’s a lot of other aspects left to be desired. The tight end position has especially been a topic of conversation due to the lack of production Cole Kmet and Colston Loveland have provided for this unit through the first two weeks.”The fact that the tight ends aren’t involved more, that’s a reflection of me more than anybody else,” Johnson said on Wednesday. “I’m on that”
TE position needs to be more of a focal point for the Bears in Week 3
Actions speak a lot louder than words. After Week 1, Johnson said the lack of emphasis with the tight end position in the passing game was game plan specific for that matchup and there was a thought that would increase in Week 2 against the Detroit Lions. Let’s see how it ended up looking.
Looks to me like the production actually got worse for both tight ends in Week 2 and it wasn’t by design this time around based on what Johnson had to say on Monday.
“I kinda knew that first game that the tight end position wasn’t going to be featured as much. I was hopeful that this game we would bounce back a little bit more, both with Cole and Colston,” Johnson added.
The creativity and designs specifically made to get Kmet and Loveland involved in the passing game just haven’t been there. Which has been a bit of a disappointed considering how excited everyone was when talking all offseason about the impact these two players could have in 2025.
