Beloved candy supplier just filed for bankruptcy right before Halloween

A national candy distributor has filed for bankruptcy a week before the biggest day for candy. Candy Warehouse voluntarily filed for Chapter 11 bankruptcy on Oct. 24 in the Northern District of Texas right before Halloween. In its petition to the U.S. Bankruptcy Court, the Texas-based candy company listed $100,000 to $1 million in assets and $1 million to $10 million in liabilities, according to Bankruptcy Observer. The U.S. Sun reports that the online candy retailer reported higher liabilities than assets. This means Candy Warehouse is insolvent and can no longer pay its debts. To continue operating, a company may file for Chapter 11 bankruptcy, which allows a company to reorganize its finances and continue operating while paying off debts over time, often by selling assets. Additionally, in 2024 Candy Warehouse’s online store made about $4.5 million in sales, a decrease of 10% to 20% from 2023, according to online data firm Grips Intelligence. Grips reported Candy Warehouse’s annual revenue for 2025 is projected to drop by an additional 20% to 50%. The firm did not give a reason for the decline in revenue. About Candy Warehouse The woman-owned, minority family business has specialized in selling bulk candy and snack products since 1998. Candy Warehouse works out of its warehouse in Carrollton, Texas. Candy Warehouse serves a variety of clientele such as hotels and resorts, hospitals and healthcare facilities, zoos and theme parks, restaurants and cafes, candy shops and retailers, event planners, and private individuals, according to its website. There are more than 6,000 fresh candies to choose from on Candy Warehouse’s online store, with classic candies like Chuckles, Bit-O-Honey, and DOTS or fan favorites like Snickers and M&M candies.
