Beloved Alabama restaurant closing after 30 years: ‘We will treasure every memory’

A mainstay of dining in northeast Alabama is shutting its doors after three decades. The owners of Anniston’s Classic on Noble announced Thursday their intention to retire and close the restaurant at the end of the year. In an announcement, Cathy and David Mashburn stated that the restaurant “has been our life’s work, and our hearts are filled with gratitude for everyone who has walked through our doors.” “Although we are stepping into retirement, we are not quite ready to say goodbye,” the couple said. “Classic on Noble will remain open throughout the holidays, and we would love to celebrate this special season with you, so book your holiday parties and gatherings while you can. We would love to see your familiar faces one more time.” Classic on Noble, located on Anniston’s Noble Street, began after the husband-and-wife cooking team of Mashburns ran a successful catering business called Classic Catering. They also thanked their daughter Crystal, who is “looking forward to a new chapter.” Located in downtown Anniston’s 123-year-old Levy and Clark building, the restaurant serves up jumbo lump Maryland crab cakes, grilled Alaskan salmon and Classic on Noble’s signature shrimp and grits, which made the “100 Dishes to Eat in Alabama Before You Die” list. The restaurant also became a beloved destination for wedding receptions, baby showers, anniversaries and reunions. “It has been an honor to serve this community, and we will treasure every memory,” the Mashburns stated.
