Beloved AEW star officially confirms 2 year hiatus from wrestling

A popular AEW name has just given a major update to the fans following his recovery from a severe injury. He has confirmed that he will be going on a hiatus from the ring for roughly 2 years.Earlier this month, Kota Ibushi had a freak accident during his match on AEW Collision: Homecoming. He ended up falling from the top rope straight to ringside and ended up breaking his femur. He has had successful surgery for this and has begun his road to recovery. The Golden Star has given an update on Instagram as he revealed that his medical staples have now been removed during his recent check-up. He then gave a potential timeline for his recovery, as he mentioned how this could last 8 to 12 months. He would then need to get back into the rhythm for in-ring competition, which would put things at around a 2-year recovery period.“Ok last inspection today! And up to my waist I pulled out 42 medical staples! Now I can go home! It was nice until, but well reality is reality...Femur fracture and personal life will be fine in 8-12 months. From there, I’ve gotten my body back in full swing and putting in ring practice and so on, I’d better see it for 2 years. Pretty unexpected but that was said for the beginning and I’m only day 18 post op!”He also reassured fans that he was not pushing his body to the limit by trying out any weight training this early on.“Meeting with AEW doctor at the hospital today for the first time in a long time since post op. Are you already squatting with weights the moment we meet!? I didn’t do it! I didn’t know what I was talking about, but I thought it was a standing and sitting video, so I showed it...Well that was a little early, but normal. I’m so relieved, I heard you’re doing squats and lunges with weights. You can’t and won’t do that with a fractured femur. I thought this kind of story would grow up quickly, and at the same time I learned how scared the internet was.” [H/T RSN]The original post can be found here.Self Made AO 💫 @KXNGAOLINKKota Ibushi shows his surgical scars, says that now that the staples have been removed from his leg he will be able to travel back home. He also said that he spoke to his doctors and showed them the video below, and the doctor said that this is normal (and the internets concernThe AEW star is now able to stand on his own strengthKota Ibushi posted a positive update on his recovery a few days ago, which included a clip of him standing and sitting from his wheelchair on his own strength. "In the second and third pictures, my shoulders get tired quickly, but I managed to stand on my own‼️‼️ I experienced the difficulty of standing for the first time in about 42 years (though I don’t remember it). I still can’t take the first step. I don’t have enough strength. But, if I may say so myself, I’m really trying, right? lol," wrote Ibushi in the caption. [H/T - ITR Wrestling]Despite the limited matches he has been in AEW so far, Ibushi has cemented himself as a popular figure on the roster. We hope for a speedy recovery for him.
