Belize Extends Condolences on Passing of Cuban Statesman
The Government of Belize has extended condolences to the Government and people of Cuba following the death of Ricardo Cabrisas Ruiz, Vice Prime Minister and a key figure in the island’s economic and diplomatic policy.
Born in 1937, Cabrisas passed away in Havana on Tuesday at the age of 88. Cuban President Miguel Díaz-Canel described him as “an exemplary man who dedicated his entire life to the Revolution.”
Cabrisas dedicated decades of service to the Cuban Revolution and, since 2019, held senior roles, including Vice Prime Minister and Minister of Foreign Trade and Foreign Investment.
He remained active in negotiations, including Cuba’s debt talks with the Paris Club.
Belize said his legacy of solidarity and commitment to the Global South will continue to inspire future leaders. He was hailed as a steadfast friend who advanced cooperation in health, education and diplomacy.
Former Foreign Minister Eamon Courtenay called him ““a great friend of Belize and the Caribbean. We worked together over the years, always based on mutual respect, solidarity, and seeking betterment for the peoples of the Global South.”
