Today’s beauty review came about by accident. I switched up my nighttime regimen, and I needed a different type of night cream. I go through periods where I’ll use maybe a serum and an oil, and then at other times, I’ll be deep into retinol for a few weeks.
It was during one of those retinol treatment phases that I reworked my night regime to suit – using the anti-ageing cream with nothing else every other night of the week, and something hydrating and nourishing on the other nights.
The retinol I use is a strong one, but my skin tolerates it. If I apply a little too much and my skin feels a bit dry, I will spritz it with a little face mist after 30-45 minutes, but not before then. The reason for that is I don’t want to dilute the retinol before it’s had a chance to work.
Nighttime Regime
What I was looking for in a night cream was something thirst-quenching, nourishing and a moisturiser that made me look refreshed by morning. For all of that, I wanted a cream that had a lightweight feel, even gel-like, as I find those the most relaxing to wear, especially if I’ve just taken off makeup.
I found the Nuxe Merveillance Lift Concentrated Night Cream (there is a day version as well) and it ticked all the boxes for what I wanted, so it deserved a beauty review. Here’s how I got on with it.
Beauty Review
I was using the cream on alternate nights with the retinol, and now I’m on a break from the anti-ageing regime to switch things up. I realised that the night cream had quickly become my favourite part of my skincare routine before bed, and I continued to use it. It has a fantastic smell (jasmine, vanilla and ylang-ylang), but more than that, I feel that it makes me look more rested and refreshed by the morning, like I had 10 hours of sleep instead of eight.
Since I had chosen the cream based on the texture and lightweight formula, I decided to look more into the ingredients to see what was inside that could be making a difference to my skin.
The night cream contains some tremendous moisturising ingredients, such as rosehip and coconut oils, and glycerin. You can’t go wrong with any of those in a night cream. But, also in there is microalgae oil, a seaweed-derived ingredient known for its moisturising effects and power to firm the skin. Nuxe’s cream contains 97% natural-origin ingredients, and I believe the lifting effects of this microalgae oil are what give your skin a more rested appearance in the morning.
The scent is a bonus, it’s gorgeous, but no one ever turns down waking up refreshed and firmer, do they? I’ve used this down to the last drop (which is rare for me, I’m a beauty editor), and I imagine I’ll do the same with the next jar too. This gets the thumbs up for this beauty review, it’s totally worth it. You can find the Nuxe Lift Concentrated Night Cream in pharmacies nationwide and online, €52.20/50ml.
