Beach Terrace Park project begins in Longport

LONGPORT — The borough’s Beach Terrace Park Board of Trustees broke ground this week on a long-awaited project to redevelop a 1,600-foot beachfront lot along Beach Terrace.
The site, once home to a boardwalk built in 1919 and destroyed by the Great Atlantic Hurricane of 1944, has remained underdeveloped for decades.
The project is moving forward with support from the borough and private donors.
Plans include fencing, a landscaped walkway with pavers and a sprinkler system.
The park is scheduled to open by next summer, with a grand opening set for Fourth of July weekend.
Fundraising continues, and tax-deductible donations can be made at beachterracepark.com.
