The Board of Control for Cricket in India (BCCI) has sent an official email to Asian Cricket Council (ACC) president Mohsin Naqvi regarding the return of the Asia Cup trophy to India. In response, Naqvi proposed conducting an official handover ceremony in the first week of November for the trophy’s formal return. India clinched a five-wicket win in the Asia Cup final over Pakistan in Dubai on September 28. However, India declined to collect the medals and trophy from Mohsin Naqvi. Naqvi reportedly canceled the presentation and withdrew the award, prompting the players to stage a mock celebration on the podium. BCCI Condemns ACC Chief Mohsin Naqvi Over Asia Cup Trophy Standoff During the ACC meeting on September 30, the BCCI condemned the actions of Mohsin Naqvi. The BCCI stated that the trophy should be handed to India, led by Suryakumar Yadav. BCCI vice-president Rajeev Shukla said that the trophy should have been placed under the immediate custody of the ACC. Despite offering apologies to the ACC member boards, Naqvi maintained his stance, refusing to return the trophy to India. He insisted that India’s captain must personally visit the ACC headquarters in Dubai to collect the silverware. The BCCI pointed out that there was no reason for the Indian skipper to travel to retrieve the trophy. Notably, this was the first cricket tournament between India and Pakistan after the terrorist attack in Pahalgam and Operation Sindoor. ACC Chief Mohsin Naqvi Invites BCCI to Collect Trophy in November The BCCI has reportedly reached out to Mohsin Naqvi again about returning the trophy. Pakistani journalist Faizan Lakhani stated that Naqvi suggested a formal handover ceremony in the first week of November, requesting India to send a player to collect the trophy. "Asia Cup Trophy row: BCCI once again reached out to the ACC chairman Mohsin Naqvi asking for the trophy. The ACC chief responded, suggesting a ceremony in the first week of November, “bring one of your players and receive the trophy,” Faizan Lakhani wrote on X (formerly known as Twitter). Asia Cup Trophy Row Continues as BCCI Awaits Resolution from ACC If Mohsin Naqvi remains uncooperative, the trophy may continue to stay at the ACC office until a sensible agreement is reached among council members. The BCCI still has multiple options to ensure that the Indian team receives the trophy it rightfully won by defeating Pakistan. Officials from the BCCI stated that there is sufficient time before the next meeting and that the board will determine its course of action when appropriate. Meanwhile, the PCB has not responded to requests for comment. Earlier, BCCI secretary Devajit Saikia condemned the behavior of the ACC chairman, calling it unacceptable and unsporting. Saikia mentioned that India had intentionally decided not to accept the Asia Cup 2025 trophy from the chairman, who also serves as a senior Pakistani minister. "We have decided not to accept the Asia Cup 2025 trophy from the ACC chairman, who happens to be one of the senior leaders of Pakistan. That was a conscious decision," Saikia said.
