BBC Waterloo Road star flooded with support after revealing dad has taken his own life

A Waterloo Road star has been flooded with support after sharing that dad has taken his own life in a heartbreaking post on social media. Reece Douglas joined the BBC school drama back in 2009, playing the role of the fictional school’s student Denzil Kelly. Starring on the programme for three years, Denzil’s storyline saw his difficult home environment and family situation adding to his struggles in school. The popular character was killed off during series seven of Waterloo Road in 2012 when he was involved in a lorry accident while travelling to Scotland. Following his time on Waterloo Road, Reece went on to appear on a number of the BBC’s other hit soaps, including Doctors, Casualty and Holby City . Recent years have seen him focusing on his tech start-up company called Social Plug, which aims to ‘connect brands and agencies to content creators’. Taking to Instagram on Thursday (October 30), Reece confirmed news of his dad’s passing as he posted a picture of the pair together. He captioned the post "I love you so much dad. Knowing my dad recently, more so than ever, never did I truly know he’d take his life. I’m going to make you so proud." The comments section of the post saw a number of Reece’s friends and fans sending their sympathy and support in the wake of his dad’s death. Emmerdale actor Danny Miller said: "Oh mate I’m so sorry! Sending loads of love brother." Former Emmerdale and Hollyoaks actor Anthony Quinn added: "Sorry to hear the news mate. Sending love and thoughts to you and family." Ryan Clayton , who played Sergeant Mike Rutherford in Waterloo Road, wrote: “So sorry to hear this mate, big love to you and your family.” Presenter Gemma Hepworth posted: “So sorry Reece. Sending all the love and strength.” Radio host Dane Swindells commented: “So sorry to hear this @reecedouglas1. Thinking of you and your family. You’ll continue to make him proud everyday. Sending so much love.” Anyone affected by this story can contact the Samaritans 24-hour helpline on 116 123, email jo@samaritans.org, visit a Samaritans branch in person or go to the Samaritans website .
