BBC viewers were quick to share their thoughts on Rob Rinder and Rylan Clark’s fresh travel programme, with some expressing frustration just moments into the broadcast.
The latest series follows judge Rob and television presenter Rylan as they retrace the journey of Rob’s beloved author, EM Forster, in Passage to India.
During the opening sequence, the duo lands in Delhi and attempts to navigate the bustling metropolis, only to find themselves trapped in heavy traffic.
Rob disclosed that he had visited India on multiple occasions; nevertheless, this marked Rylan’s maiden voyage to the country, having never ventured to Asia previously except for the Maldives.
Viewers swiftly flocked to social media to respond to Rylan, who grumbled repeatedly about the congestion, reports the Express.
One viewer remarked: “So @Rylan and @JudgeRinderT on @BBC #PassageToIndia. Why the heck did Rylan sign up for this, all he is doing in the 5 minutes that I could sit through it was moan about the roads the traffic, the flying insects, the rickshaw. Goodness me!”
Nevertheless, one viewer held a different opinion and contended: “Just watched the first episode of #RobRinder & #RylanClark #PassagetoIndia It’s literally out of this world. Beyond words….TY.”
Yet one viewer remained unconvinced and observed: “Rylan is typical of many Brits who have only ever been on a package holiday in the med.”
Audiences did appreciate the programme and found it entertaining, with one viewer stating: “Enjoying Rob & Rylan Passage to India.”
Another also commented: “@Rylan I’m tuning in to watch you guys as you take me around India. I’ve missed you both.”
Another viewer gushed: “Rob & Rylan’s passage to India, fabulous TV and, making me really really want to go back to India, such a fabulous place and even in the first episode they’re really showing how it talks to you, how its so different and how relaxing it is despite being so so busy and crowded.”
During the programme, the duo kicked off their adventure in Delhi, India’s bustling capital, which boasts 34 million residents – nearly four times London’s population.
The presenting pair then explored the hectic street bazaar of Chandni Chowk, where EM Forster commenced his own expedition, before visiting the magnificent 16th-century wonder that is Humayun’s Tomb and the vibrant Lodhi Colony, famous for its towering street art murals.
The beloved television personalities also encountered billionaire art enthusiast Shalini Passi, alongside campaigner and musician Naveen Koomar, who challenged Rob and Rylan to showcase their own original rap composition.
Rob and Rylan’s Passage to India airs on Sunday on BBC Two at 9pm.
