BBC’s Strictly Come Dancing professional dancer Nikita Kuzmin, has revealed he sometimes feels “overwhelmed” when his medical condition features on the programme, but expressed his joy if it motivates others living with the same illness. Eagle eyed fans may have spotted Nikita’s diabetic sensor on his arm during the launch show of the new series of Strictly, which aired on Saturday, September 20. The episode saw the 27-year-old dancer paired with TV personality and former Love Island winner Dani Dyer. He previously shared with New magazine: “I see it as my superpower. It makes me more responsible and aware of my body. “If I can inspire even one person by showing them it’s possible to dance with diabetes, then I’ve done my job.” In the past, fans have spotted the sensor and shared on social media how seeing Nikita be open about his health condition has inspired them. One person said: “Still want to know how Nikita dances all day long as a diabetic. Newly diagnosed with type 1 diabetes and I can barely regulate my sugars after a walk.” Another added: “My favourite famous diabetic person has to be Nikita Kuzmin from Strictly Come Dancing. He’s an absolute boss who doesn’t let diabetes stop him from doing what he loves doing!” The professional dancer has been part of the popular BBC programme since 2021, and revealed his 23 year old model partner Lauren Jaine isn’t concerned about the notorious Strictly Curse. When questioned whether she experiences jealousy seeing him in close contact with his celebrity dancing partner, Nikita explained: “I think it can be difficult for anyone who isn’t a dancer to understand, but she knows it’s just a job.” “We don’t really think about it in a romantic way – it’s just part of what we do. And if there was ever an issue, we’d talk about it and just sort it out.” The ‘Celebrity Big Brother’ runner-up is understood to have begun his relationship with Lauren in early 2023, before making their romance public later that year. He disclosed that matrimony has been a topic of discussion for the besotted pair and he remains hopeful she will accept his proposal one day.
