Worse still, there’s a personal link to the case for one of the team, testing loyalty to the limits." Shetland returns for a tenth series on BBC One and BBC iPlayer at 9pm on Wednesday, November 5. There will be six episodes in the new series in total. Season 10 will see Ashley Jensen, Alison O'Donnell, Lewis Howden and Steven Robertson reprise their roles as DI Ruth Calder, DS Lorna Tosh McIntosh, Sgt Billy Mccabe, and Sandy. Meanwhile Samuel Anderson joins as Procurator Fiscal Matt Blake, while guest stars this series include Clive Russell, Ellie Haddington, Niall Macgregor, Louise Brealey, Greg Mchugh, Frances Grey, and Stuart Townsend. The main location for series 10 was a real life village called Levenwick, on the road between Lerwick and Sumburgh airport, which was transformed into the fictional village of Lunniswick. Speaking about the location to BBC, Alison O'Donnell, said: "Lunniswick is typical of Shetland, scattered houses lining a beach, the neighbours well acquainted with one another and the land they live on. "It is rich in history, relationships and secrets which I really loved as a central focus of the mystery. There was so much to play with, so much to unpack." Ashley Jensen added: "This series we've kind of become a little more insular rather than the expansive locations of last year. "We've really come into the nucleus of the small hamlet of Lunniswick and used a real-life town as our location. It's very much a small community where everybody knows each other's business." Shetland starts on Wednesday, November 5 at 9pm on BBC One and BBC iPlayer.
