BBC cop drama Hope Street, filmed and set in Northern Ireland, is returning to screens for an exciting fifth series. As the show reaches the 50th episode milestone, there are new crimes to solve and two new faces in the fictional village of Port Devine. Throughout the series, each episode features a crime story, interwoven with the lives and loves of the officers who police the town, filmed in Donaghadee. The new series introduces two fresh faces to Port Devine – Constable Donal Gallagher, played by Cameron Cuffe (Krypton) and Doctor Sasha Cookson, played by Jenn Murray (The Lovers). A description for the upcoming episodes reads: "Series five opens with a bang, when the Port Devine half-marathon is disrupted by a parked car exploding. "Handsome new Police Constable – and ex-Ulster rugby player – Donal Gallagher is first on the scene. And when he meets the car’s owner, straight-talking GP Sasha Cookson, sparks start flying. "As the eight-part series continues, Inspector Eve Dunlop wonders if her marriage is in trouble when her husband, Detective Luke Jackson, is seen with another woman and discovers that best friend, Marlene, has been keeping secrets from her. It is going to be a testing time for Eve." At The Commodore bar, Clint and Nicole aren’t best pleased to discover Brandi is out of jail and back in Port Devine. However, Brandi’s fiancé, Ryan, is delighted. It continues: "Brandi wonders if returning to Port Devine was a terrible mistake and if Nicole and Clint will be able to forgive her for kidnapping their baby. Then Clint finds himself in financial difficulties and desperately tries to stop Nicole finding out. "The course of true love runs anything but smooth for cleaner Lois and would-be poet Seamie, especially when news arrives that Seamie’s estranged wife wants to meet up with him. Meanwhile, Lois has other things on her mind when she receives some bad news from the doctor. "As the series draws to a close, a long-standing relationship falls to pieces, someone receives an unexpected marriage proposal - and Port Devine is rocked by a shocking death. From stolen cars to money scams and a shooting that stuns the community, series five promises to be the most action-packed yet." Returning for this eight-part series are Kerri Quinn, Tara Lynne O’Neill, Aaron McCusker, Niamh McGrady, Marcus Onilude, Finnian Garbutt, Katie Shortt, Eleanor Methven, Paddy Jenkins, RhéAna Kamalu and Jonny Grogan. Behind the drama are acclaimed producers Paul Marquess and Donna Wiffen from Long Story TV, known for producing London Kills and The Light in The Hall and producer Leon Coole.
