BBC One Show viewers issued warning as hosts admit they had 'really good cry'

BBC viewers tuning in for the latest instalment of The One Show received an early warning just moments into Monday night's programme. Presenters Lauren Laverne and Alex Jones were hosting the edition on October 3, and as they outlined what was coming up, they were quick to alert fans about an emotional segment ahead. The pair revealed they would be catching up with 21-year-old Lloyd Martin from The One Show's Challenge Squad, who made history as the youngest person with Down's syndrome to complete a marathon in 2024. His latest endeavour involves tackling a triathlon for Children in Need, despite being unable to ride a bike or swim long distances, reports Wales Online . "We'll also see the touching moment that Lloyd bravely stands in front of the Strictly audience and to tell them why he's taking on this epic challenge," Alex explained. Jumping in with a cautionary note, Lauren added: "Oh yeah it's gorgeous that film. Tissues at the ready though." The programme later featured a more detailed look at Lloyd's journey, covering his experiences with bullying alongside his health battles - which include regular eye injections to preserve his sight - and his achievements. As part of his latest fundraising effort, he was brought to the Strictly Come Dancing studio to speak to the audience, with the moment shown during tonight's One Show. In his address, he spoke about his health challenges and paid tribute to contestant Ellie Goldstein, who became the first dancer with Down's syndrome to appear on the programme. Presenters Alex Jones and Lauren Laverne admitted the clip had left them emotional, with Alex revealing: "Isn't Lloyd amazing? It's just as well we saw that earlier on because we had a really good cry." The One Show's Challenge Squad brings together four remarkable young people who have been supported by BBC Children in Need funding and are now embarking on challenges to transform young lives across the country. Discussing his role in the squad, Lloyd explained: "I want to show the world what I can do, and that people with Down syndrome can do anything if they have support. Stepping Stones DS is a charity that is supported by BBC Children in Need. "They have helped me grow in confidence and get the most out of life. I want to show the world that if you follow your dreams, and have the right support, anything is possible." The One Show presenter Alex also commented: "It's an absolute joy to be back with the Challenge Squad this year. These young people are truly remarkable - full of courage and determination. "I'm so proud to be working with them and helping to share their stories with the nation. The challenges they're taking on are no small feat, but we know they'll each give it everything they've got." The One Show airs on BBC One and iPlayer weeknights from 7pm
