    BBC issues Strictly Come Dancing statement after Thomas Skinner abruptly leaves launch event

    The BBC has issued a statement following widespread reports that Thomas Skinner abruptly left a press event to launch the upcoming series of Strictly Come Dancing. The former The Apprentice contestant and social media personality is among the 15 celebrities preparing to take to the dancefloor as the hit BBC One dance contest returns to screens on Saturday, September 20. Ahead of the launch being pre-recorded on Wednesday (September 10), a special event was held on Tuesday (September 9) which saw members of the press able to interview the new Strictly stars about their upcoming stint on the show. However, Thomas left the Elstree Studios event after talking to a group of journalists who were interviewing him alongside fellow 2025 contestant, former footballer Jimmy Floyd Hasselbank. With a number of other people still to speak to, journalists waiting to interview Thomas, including the Manchester Evening News, did not get a chance to put any questions to the star. Following the debacle, with details of the reason for he abrupt exit unconfirmed, the BBC has now told the Mirror: “The BBC is very clear that any behaviour which falls below the standards expected will not be tolerated on our programmes.” On Monday, Thomas took to X (formerly known as Twitter ) to say he had had the “best day” after his first full day of rehearsals. He said: “I just had my first full day dancing with my dance partner for strictly. Honestly had the best day, we did not stop laughing start to finish and I enjoyed the dancing more than I thought! ” All the other cast and contestants was fantastic to…. Can’t wait for you all to see me dancing. Honestly, I am properly enjoying it. Massively out of my comfort zone but trying my best!! Now it’s time for bath and bed….these two left feet have been burning up the dance floor! He later added “Today was my first day dancing with my STRICTLY PARTNER!!! Honestly enjoyed it so much more than I thought and me and my partner did not stop laughing all day! It is such a good experience and I’m fully surrendering to Strictly.”
