BBA moves to improve safety, procures fire truck, waste compactor

In a bold move to check the rising wave of fire outbreaks in clusters and plazas at the Balogun Business Association (BBA) market complex, Trade Fair, Lagos, President of BBA, Mr. Paul Oscar Odogwu, has unveiled strategies aimed at forestalling fire outbreaks and promotion of safety in the market.

A statement by the BBA President, said it has observed that most fire outbreaks in the market in the past have been traced to solar inverters installed inside shops. “Due to lack of ventilation, or substandard batteries, explosion and fire could occur.

“In this regard and after due consultation with stakeholders, wehave decided to ban installation of solar inverters inside lockup shops.”

Odogwu also said that the association has placed orders for a brand new fire truck from China, hinting that the association would soon take delivery of the fire truck and waste compactor truck to complement the efforts of LAWMA in keeping the complex clean.

Other measures taken by the association to bring the market to international standard includes; restoration of electricity, beautification of the complex, renovation of the market secretariat, installation of solar street lights and unveiling of clinic in the market to care for the well being of traders in the sprawling market.
