Bayless cancels game against St. Vincent because of illness throughout football program

Bayless High was forced to cancel Friday’s home football game against St. Vincent because of illness in the program.
The Quad County Conference game will go into the books as a 13-0 win for Perryville-based St. Vincent, according to MSHSAA rules.
“There is some sickness going around the team, spreading around,” Bayless school district marketing and communications coordinator Stephen Terrill said. “Because of that we’re trying to be very cautious and continue the season so we’re going to shut down the program for the week.”
Bayless (1-5 overall, 0-3 league) co-ops with Hancock.
The Bronchos, who lost 50-20 to Jefferson last week, have 31 players listed on their active roster.
“It’s just not that the numbers are that low,” Terrill said. “It’s just that what the kids have got is pretty easily spread through contact and sweat droplets and stuff like that. Playing football is not conducive to that.”
Bayless has lost three in a row after a 43-20 win over Crystal City on Sept. 12.
Terrill expects the team to return to practice Monday, and he said it will play at home against Herculaneum on Oct. 10.
“We’re going to be back at it,” Terrill said. “This is just a one-week thing.”
