SOCCER: SIX STRAIGHT FOR WESTERN
The game opened a little rough for Bay City Western.
But the Warriors have been playing too well for that to continue.
Western found its spark and stormed to a 6-1 win over Davison, extending its winning streak to six games.
“We started too slow but worked ourselves into that game,” Western coach Kyle Jean said. “We came out with more effort and intent, and got a few goals.”
Western (13-3) got goals from five different sources as Luke Arnold, Landon Kuch, Luke Shotwell, Blake Wrzesinski, Urijah Cooper and Tanner Dore all found the net. Wrzesinski and Shotwell each had two assists with Dillan Mullins adding one.
SOCCER: PINCONNING KEEPS ROLLING
After tinkering with its lineup, Pinconning has found the right combination.
The Spartans scored a 2-0 victory over Roscommon, giving them a four-game winning streak and pushing them to the .500 mark.
“Over the past few games, players have willingly accepted new roles and responsibilities,” Pinconning coach Mike Stoneback said. “(That has) paid off handsomely with increased goals and the current four-game win streak.”
In its best season since 2012, Pinconning bumped its record to 8-8, surpassing its win total from the past two seasons combined.
Trevin Billingsley scored both goals against Roscommon, each one set up by a Max Wieland assist.
Lucas Stoneback registered the third Pinconning shutout of the year with defensive excellence from Bailey VanHorn, Landon Cooley, Ryan Kowalczyk and Remi Merithew. Ashton Enciso, Tony Holstine and Landon Schumann shined in the midfield.
