Bay City area 8-player roundup Week 5: Quick counter score sparks Au Gres victory

AU GRES 60, WHITTEMORE-PRESCOTT 36
The last play of the first half had lingering effects for Au Gres.
After Whittemore-Prescott scored to take the lead with just 18 seconds left in the half, Au Gres was able to counter 16 seconds later, gaining momentum it would ride to a 60-36 victory in the eight-player football showdown.
“Once we got into a rhythm, we were able to move the ball pretty well,” Au Gres coach Brian Sanchez said. “Defensively, we struggled early on and allowed first downs at critical times. As the game progressed, we stepped up and got some turnovers.”

Cole Dewald rolled up 214 yards on 19 carries, scoring three touchdowns, including a 20-yard dash to paydirt on the final play of the first half for a four-point lead.
Carson Ososki was 14 of 20 passing for 205 yards and four touchdowns and added another TD on the ground. Charlie Schnettler hauled in five passes for 134 yards and two scores while Brennan Smolen also caught a touchdown toss. Levi Jones ran for a TD and four two-point conversions.
Schnettler led the defense with 15 tackles while Dewald added 10.
MIO 40, ALCONA 26
The passing game was efficient, the running game was forceful and Mio had everything clicking.
The Thunderbolts were sharp all the way around for a 40-26 victory over Alcona, its first in the series since 2014.
Mio (4-1) featured a devastating 1-2 punch in the backfield in Gauge Spitzer and Atreyu Burden. Spitzer rambled for 119 yards and three touchdowns on 21 carries while Burden went for 116 yards and two scores on 12 attempts.
Brody Fox engineered the offense, completing 10 of 13 passes for 89 yards and adding 32 yards on the ground.
Burden delivered 12 tackles on the defensive side of the ball while Spitzer had nine stops, an interception and fumble recovery. Logan Fox added seven tackles while Noah Boright and Brock Stewart recovered fumbles.
