The Bawku West District Assembly has deployed guards to five waste dumping sites as part of efforts to control indiscriminate waste disposal and improve sanitation management. District Chief Executive, James Ayamweogo, who led a clean-up exercise on Saturday, November 1, 2025, at the Sapelliga Market Square, said the move will help ensure that residents dispose of waste responsibly and within designated areas. “We have recruited dumping site guards to man five key waste collection points across the district,” Mr. Ayamweogo disclosed. “Their presence will help maintain order, prevent illegal dumping, and promote a sense of responsibility among residents.” He added that the Assembly has begun strict enforcement of sanitation bye-laws, warning that residents who flout the regulations will face appropriate sanctions. “We cannot achieve a clean environment without discipline,” he cautioned. “Everyone must play a role in protecting the health of our communities.” The initiative forms part of the district’s renewed commitment to sustain the momentum of National Sanitation Day, reinstated by the government to encourage community-led hygiene practices.
