Battlefield RedSec FAQ: Where To Download, Crossplay, Maps, Solos, Warzone Comparison, & More

Battlefield RedSec is the franchise's latest foray into the popular battle royale genre, and was released with very little preamble on October 28, 2025. It follows just a couple of weeks after the release of the well-received Battlefield 6, concurrently dropping with the game's first season of post-launch content. While it's effectively an extension of BF6, RedSec is free-to-play, so there are no purchases required. Anyone broadly familiar with battle royales will understand the basics, but with very little promotion given to RedSec before its release, there are understandably some lingering questions about it. Below are answers to some common queries but if we haven't answered yours, drop a comment at the bottom, and we'll try to help out. Where Do I Download Battlefield RedSec? Do I Need To Own Battlefield 6? Battlefield RedSec is designed with the same systems as Battlefield 6, so the answer here is a little complicated. RedSec is a standalone game, but can also be accessed via BF6 if you already have it. There are essentially two ways to install RedSec: If you own Battlefield 6, make sure your game is updated to the latest version, then look for the RedSec section in the main menu's Play tab. Clicking any of the RedSec game modes should prompt you to download the requisite data (don't forget the HD texture pack if you want higher resolutions). Conversely, you can navigate to the Settings tab, then the System section, and click Install/Uninstall, where the same download options will be available. If you do not own Battlefield 6, you can find a separate Battlefield RedSec listing on your preferred platform's storefront – PS5 and Xbox Series X/S's proprietary marketplaces, Steam, Epic Games Store, or the EA App. Does Battlefield RedSec Have Cross-Platform Support? How Do I Join Friends On Other Platforms? Just like BF6, Battlefield RedSec supports crossplay between all platforms. PS5, Xbox, and PC players can join squads, matchmake, and compete together. To use crossplay, you will need to go through Electronic Arts' network overlay, EA Connect. You'll link your platform account to an EA Account, via which you can add your friends' EA Accounts and invite them to a squad. Crossplay is enabled by default, but it can also be turned off. Crossplay attempts to prioritize your same platform when turned on, but in my BF6 experience, it's generally a pretty even mix of the different platforms. Disabling cross-platform play limits you to connecting only with those on your same platform. There is no console-only crossplay option, for instance. What Game Modes Are Included In Battlefield RedSec? Is RedSec Only BR? Battlefield RedSec currently has two game modes: traditional Battle Royale and Gauntlet. The former is what you would expect from the genre – 100 players are split into teams and parachute into a regularly shrinking map until one squad remains. You start with only a pistol, but loot crates and complete missions to earn better weapons, gadgets, and vehicles. Gauntlet adopts a tournament structure, and you start with whichever weapons you have unlocked and equipped on your classes. You play on smaller sections of the map, and are given missions to complete. Objectives range from simply eliminating other squads to retrieving explosives and detonating them in set locations, among many others. Each mission type has a scoring system, and a set number of the top-scoring squads advance to the next round. Over the course of four rounds, the number of participating squads is whittled down to two for the final mission. Does Battlefield RedSec Have Solos? Can I Play Alone? At launch, Battlefield RedSec does not feature a solo playlist. There are two possible squad configurations: quads and duos. You can solo queue and be assigned random teammates, but you cannot play completely alone. It's unclear at this time if RedSec plans on adding a solos playlist in the future. How Do Classes Work In RedSec? Does It Matter Which Class I Choose? Before deploying, you'll be asked to choose a class in both Battle Royale and Gauntlet. Classes matter in both RedSec game modes, but they work a bit differently. In BR, your class determines your starting gadget, your weapon proficiency, and the passive buffs you will earn as the match progresses. For instance, a Support player will always have a Supply Bag equipped, letting them replenish squad mates' health and ammo. Your passive buffs, earned by accumulating score, are determined by your Training Path. In Gauntlet, your classes work the exact same as they do in traditional Battlefield multiplayer. You are in possession of the weapons and gadgets you've chosen when you spawn, and can only pick up new ones by taking kits from fallen players. In both game modes, each class has its strengths and weaknesses. Each class's weapon proficiency is as follows: Assault: Assault Rifles Engineer: SMGs Support: LMGs Recon: Sniper Rifles The other three weapon categories – Shotguns, DMRs, and Carbines – are universal. No class can use these three weapon types better than any other. How Many Maps Does RedSec Have At Launch? How Much Destruction Is There? Battlefield RedSec launched with one map, called Fort Lyndon. To go along with the theme of Battlefield 6 Season 1, Fort Lyndon is canonically located in Southern California, but is a restricted zone filled with military facilities. This narrative background is what gives RedSec its name, a portmanteau of "redacted" and "sector." Fort Lyndon features Battlefield 6's signature destruction, but also takes it a small step further. Most structures have destructible elements, though their foundations and interior skeletons are often impervious to explosions. Certain towers in RedSec can collapse, though, which is not possible on any Battlefield 6 multiplayer map. In Battle Royale, all of Fort Lyndon is accessible until the circle begins shrinking. The various rounds of Gauntlet take place within Fort Lyndon's points of interest (POIs). Just like other battle royale games, POIs typically have a higher concentration of loot to be found. Is Battlefield RedSec Similar To Warzone? How Do The Two BRs Differ? Broadly speaking, RedSec is a lot like Call of Duty: Warzone. Both have a modern military aesthetic, and the game rules are very similar. RedSec is a bit more forgiving with second chances; there is no Gulag. If you are eliminated early in a RedSec match, and have squad mates still alive, you will get an automatic redeployment, often with one moderately upgraded weapon. Where RedSec more tangibly differs from Warzone is in its Battlefield series trappings. Classes play a major role in RedSec, and striking the right balance between roles in a squad can be helpful in taking on the challenges that arise. RedSec also has a stronger focus on vehicles. Many missions you are able to complete in a RedSec match will reward you with powerful items that often involve vehicles.
