Battlefield 6’s Classes Have Already Changed a Lot Since the Open Beta

With the Battlefield 6 open betas being firmly in the rear view mirror for Battlefield Studios, it hasn’t stopped the coalition of four studios working on the shooter from further improving on it. In an interview with Edge Magazine (via GamesRadar), creative director Thomas Andersson spoke about how players will find the classes of Battlefield 6 surprising even if they played the open betas.

In the interview, Andersson revealed that the game’s various classes have been changed since the end of the open betas. Unfortunately, however, Andersson didn’t reveal too many details about what kinds of changes we can expect to see when the shooter is out next month. “The class system has already moved beyond what’s in open beta,” said Andersson.

Andersson did provide some hints about what kinds of balance changes we can expect to see in the full game. Without giving too many details away, he noted that players who prefer the Assault class in the title will see “reduced efficiency in some areas” while also “getting stronger from a teamplay perspective.” One key detail he did confirm was that the deploy beacon is being switched around. Originally a gadget for the Recon class, it is instead being given to Assault “to [reinforce] ‘this is the guy to spawn on.”

“They’re going to be the one getting behind enemy lines, setting up, all that sort of stuff,” he noted.

When it comes to discussing game balance, the developers working on Battlefield 6 have been quite vocal on some of the areas that they feel the game needs improvements. Earlier this month, producer David Sirland had taken to social media to discuss the power disparity that was seen between infantry and vehicles. Responding to player complaints that infantry was proving to be too powerful against vehicles, Sirland said that this was largely an issue related to game balance.

“That is a balance issue wholesale, not specific to this special situation however,” wrote Sirland, referring to a player’s complaints about vehicles feeling too weak against infantry. “And one we are actively working on. Rather have too weak vehicles over too powerful to start. Its a tricky one as players get better at using them over time as well.”

EA had recently announced that it was starting playtests for the battle royale game mode in Battlefield 6. In its announcement, the company confirmed that these playtests will take place through Battlefield Labs, while also revealing some of the gameplay details for the game mode. Among other things, the battle royale mode is expected to be more team-focused this time around, as it will also include the core class and squad-based gameplay powering Battlefield 6 as a whole.

“This is Battlefield’s twist on the classic formula, so you can expect to find all of the core principles of Battlefield taking place within this mode; gadgets, explosives, destructible environments, and vehicles can all be used to secure the win,” wrote the company on its official website.

Battlefield 6 is being developed for PC, PS5 and Xbox Series X/S, and is coming out on October 10.
