Couples in love can now visit an unusual new photo spot. A wooden barrel-like structure has been installed in the Troják hiking area above the village of Skalité in the Kysuce region, from which visitors can see three countries – Slovakia, Czechia and Poland. Named the Capsule of Love and Friendship, it is complemented by a panoramic walkway that the village began building five years ago, according to the regional newspaper MY Kysuce. “The capsule is meant to be a reminder that love is what unites us,” Jozef Cech, mayor of Skalité, told the newspaper. “We wanted to create a place where people can leave a message that will outlive them. They can write down their wishes, confessions or words of thanks. Each capsule hides its own story.” Local craftsmen and enterprises helped The idea of creating such a spot first came about a few years ago, when the village was considering ways to add something special to the existing Love Path, where visitors can find a giant bench, Cech explained. “We wanted something symbolic, but also lasting,” he added for MY Kysuce. The capsule’s creation was supported by a grant from the Slovenský Plynárenský Priemysel Foundation. Local enthusiasts, including craftsmen and the local social enterprise, then helped to put the idea into practice. The capsule is, in fact, an old wine barrel that has been given a brand-new look. Visitors can buy small capsules, made by the social enterprise, in local restaurants, cafés or guesthouses. Inside, they find a piece of paper on which they can write their wish, dream or thought – and then leave it inside the barrel. “It’s a great idea,” said one visitor, originally from Čadca but now living in Switzerland with her family. “We know of places where couples lock their love with padlocks, but this is nicer and more intimate.” Spectacular Slovakia travel guides A helping hand in the heart of Europe thanks to our Slovakia travel guide, with more than 1,000 photos and hundreds of tourist spots. Our detailed travel guide to the Tatras introduces you to the whole region around the Tatra mountains, including attractions on the Polish side.Lost in Bratislava?
