Barcelona 'fear outbreak of deadly tuberculosis' after stadium worker tests positive

Barcelona are reportedly fearing an outbreak of tuberculosis after a stadium worker tested positive for the deadly disease . An investigation has been launched after a member of the team working on the redevelopment of the iconic Camp Nou tested positive . The Barcelona Public Health Agency (ASPB) have been quick into action and started to perform contact tracing. According to Spanish outlet El Pais , this led to 23 of the patient’s colleagues being tested. Three of the individuals are still waiting on their results. And if a further two cases are diagnosed then an outbreak will be officially declared. Tuberculosis typically harms the lungs and can cause severe coughing, fever and extreme fatigue - it is treated with antibiotics, which can take as long as six months to work. The Catalan giants are currently away from their famous old home as it undergoes renovations. It has been under redevelopment since 2023, with the new capacity set to reach 105,000 after previously housing 99,354. In its absence, Hansi Flick‘s side have since played at Estadi Olimpic Lluis Companysm which was used in the 1992 Olympics and is the former home of their city rivals Espanyol. However, it's also time for the Barcelona fans to come back home - and the club are planning to welcome 23,000 fans to the Nou Camp this Friday for an open training session this Friday. The La Liga giants then hope to gain council permission to increase that capacity to 45,000, which would enable them to return for a match. The renovations aren't quite finished - but reports suggest they're eyeing the November 22 clash with Athletic Bilbao for a return. However, they would only be able to play their domestically, with UEFA rules stating clubs are banned from playing at more than one ground in European competitions in a single season.
