All private and public banks in Jammu and Srinagar will remain closed on September 18 (Thursday) to observe Unitarian Anniversary Day, which honours the founding of the Unitarian Church in 1887, according to the Reserve Bank of India’s official holiday calendar for 2025. This is a regional holiday observed mainly in Meghalaya and is commemorated with special events and gatherings. However, banks in the other regions of the country will remain operation just like any other normal day. The RBI’s official list shows that only two holidays are scheduled for banks nationwide in the week of September 15-21, 2025, both related to regional observances rather than national holidays. Banks will also be closed on September 21 (Sunday), consistent with RBI’s usual practice of observing Sundays and the second and fourth Saturdays of each month as holidays. Other Important Bank Holidays This Month Several other bank holidays are scheduled across different cities later in September, including: September 22 (Monday): Banks in Jaipur will close for Navratra Sthapna, marking the start of Navratri celebrations. September 23 (Tuesday): Banks in Jammu and Srinagar will be shut in honour of Maharaja Hari Singh Ji’s birthday. September 29 (Monday): Banks in Agartala, Kolkata, and Guwahati will close for Maha Saptami, a key day during Durga Puja. September 30 (Tuesday): Banks in multiple cities including Bhubaneswar, Jaipur, and Patna will observe Maha Ashtami/Durga Ashtami closures. What to Do When Banks Are Closed Even on bank holidays, most digital banking services remain fully operational. Customers can use mobile banking, internet banking, UPI, and ATMs without interruption for their routine transactions and cash withdrawals. The RBI and state governments determine bank holidays each year, taking into account a mix of national, regional, religious, and cultural observances. Official announcements are made public via the RBI’s website and communicated to all banking institutions.
