New Delhi: On Saturday October 25 Mohammad Yunus head of Bangladeshs interim government gifted a controversial book to Pakistani General Sahir Shamshad Mirza. The map printed on the cover of this book titled Art of Triumph shows Indias northeastern states as part of Bangladesh. The Indian Foreign Ministry has not yet issued an official response. Shamshad Mirza is the second most powerful officer in the Pakistani Army after Asif Munir. It is believed that Mirza will succeed Munir as Pakistans Army Chief. Book features paintings created during the 2024 student movement Art of Triumph is an art book showcasing graffiti and other paintings created during the July-August 2024 student movement in Bangladesh. It was released by Yunus the interim chief adviser in September last year. Currently this book is not available for public sale. This book is gifted to foreign leaders Bangladesh leaders have previously used this book as a gift. In September 2024 Yunus gifted it to Canadian PM Justin Trudeau. Gifting this book is considered a political and diplomatic gesture. According to the Dhaka Tribune this book has been gifted to more than 12 foreign leaders and officials. These include prominent figures such as former US President Joe Biden Italian PM Giorgia Meloni former Canadian PM Justin Trudeau Brazilian PM Lula da Silva and former US Secretary of State Antony Blinken. Pakistani General Sahir Shamshad Mirza is on Bangladesh visit General Shamshad Mirza arrived in Dhaka on October 24 with a 6-member delegation. During this visit he discussed enhancing defence and security cooperation with senior Bangladeshi military and civilian leaders including Yunus. The two countries discussed expanding cooperation in various areas including trade investment and defence. General Mirza stated that the two countries share long-standing cultural and historical ties. He hopes to further strengthen these ties. He also discussed the possibilities for increased trade and connectivity. He stated that both countries will support each other.
