Baltimore to spend $13 million on CCTV cameras through 2030

Baltimore’s Board of Estimates unanimously approved a $13 million agreement Wednesday to maintain and replace CCTV cameras authorized by the CitiWatch program.
Valued at $13,040,000, the service agreement with Glen Burnie-based Skyline Technology Solutions runs from Wednesday through Sept. 30, 2030. It provides the framework for future expansion “only if additional funding is identified and made available by City agencies and the Housing Authority of Baltimore City,” according to city documents.
Leyla Layman, interim chief operating officer of the Mayor’s Office of Information and Technology, explained that the timing of the agreement is because CCTV cameras in Baltimore have a five-year lifespan. She noted the high cost of the contract is because the city uses wired cameras, which are more expensive but of better quality than their wireless counterparts.
According to a presentation by Layman, the agreement has four main purposes.
