Baltimore County Public Schools respond to recent threats made by students

Baltimore County Public Schools have responded to recent threats made by students at their schools.
On September 29, Principal Lisa Balmages of Harford Hills Elementary School sent a letter to parents and guardians, informing them of a student who had wrote “highly inappropriate and threatening statements” in a notebook.
Balmages said that those messages included threats of self-harm and listed names of students and staff members they wanted to harm.
As a result, school administration removed the student from the classroom, and a school resource officer and safety manager conducted an investigation that determined that it was not a credible threat.
Balmages said that the student is receiving “appropriate services” and will also face serious consequences aligned with the Student Handbook and Policy.

The next day, on September 30, Sandy Plains Elementary School Principal Christina Davis sent a letter to parents and guardians saying that a student had made threatening statements to specific students in the class.
That student was also removed from the classroom, and the investigation conducted by a school resource officer and safety manager found that it was not a credible threat.
Davis said that the student is receiving “appropriate services” and will also face serious consequences aligned with the Student Handbook and Policy.
“We all have a role to play in ensuring that our school remains a safe and secure learning environment for our children. Additionally, I encourage families to closely monitor what their children are seeing and hearing on the news, watching on TV, and searching on the internet. Threats will not be tolerated at Sandy Plains Elementary School,” Davis said in her letter to parents.
These incidents follow last week’s investigation into an
