Balochistan universities host 201 Afghan students amid changes

A new report has revealed that 201 Afghan students are currently pursuing higher education in different universities across Balochistan. The data shows that 84 Afghan students are enrolled at the University of Balochistan, while 59 are studying at BUITEMS, the Balochistan University of Information Technology, Engineering and Management Sciences. Additionally, 22 students are registered at the University of Loralai, and 36 Afghan female students are enrolled at Sardar Bahadur Khan Women’s University in Quetta. They mentioned that some of these students left due to changes in Pakistan’s visa policies or personal circumstances. Authorities further advised that Afghan students wishing to resume their education must first obtain valid student visas before re-entering Pakistan. This measure, they explained, ensures compliance with immigration rules and academic protocols. Moreover, the report confirmed that the special quota for Afghan students in Balochistan’s universities has now been abolished. The decision reflects broader policy adjustments between Pakistan and Afghanistan regarding educational cooperation and student exchange programs. University administrations stated that admissions for foreign students will now follow standard international criteria, ensuring transparency and merit-based selection processes. They added that universities are working closely with concerned departments to facilitate these students’ academic continuity without disruptions. This includes assistance with documentation, degree verification, and residence requirements. Education analysts believe the development underscores shifting dynamics in Pakistan-Afghanistan educational relations. They say that while Pakistan continues to host a number of Afghan students, the new visa and admission policies aim to regularize cross-border academic movement and strengthen institutional frameworks for international education cooperation.
