Bake Off Extra Slice's Jo Brand left speechless at Prue Leith's feedback

Jo Brand, the host of The Great British Bake Off : An Extra Slice, was rendered utterly gobsmacked during Friday's episode. In a surprising turn of events, Jo, aged 68, decided to treat her panel, which included Bake Off judge Prue Leith, presenter Joel Dommett, and comedian Finlay Christie, to a dessert she had personally made. Jo prefaced the tasting with a candid admission: "I'm going to subject you to my favourite pudding from school because I actually made it the other day and I should point out I hate baking, you don't have to eat it and I'm not paying you, okay?" She described her creation as follows: "This is pastry around the outside obviously and in the middle you've basically got evaporated milk, and then Muscovado sugar, half light and half dark, about 480 stone of it." The panel's reaction was overwhelmingly positive, with comments such as "so nice" and "delicious" prompting Prue, who is 85, to inquire about the recipe, reports Gloucestershire Live . Prue, a stalwart of The Great British Bake Off, expressed her curiosity: "I'm not the only person who wants to know exactly how you make it because it's delicious!" Jo was left speechless by the praise, exclaiming: "Oh my God!" She continued in disbelief: "Can you just note that because I am so useless at anything in the kitchen and I can't believe you said that? Okay!" which led to an outburst of applause from the audience. Since 2014, Jo has been at the helm of The Great British Bake Off: An Extra Slice, with Tom Allen stepping in as co-host in 2018. The episode also featured Jessika, the contestant who unfortunately had to hang up her apron as the fourth baker to depart from the show's 16th series on Tuesday night. In the most recent instalment of the show, it was Back to School week and the nine remaining contestants were tasked with impressing judges Paul Hollywood and Prue Leith in their quest to become Star Baker, an accolade that Jasmine ultimately secured. The first challenge saw the bakers whip up a school canteen classic, flapjacks, followed by a technical challenge involving a school cake and culminating in a showstopping school fete creation brimming with nostalgic delights. At the episode's conclusion, it was announced with regret that Jessika would be the one to depart from the competition. Reflecting on her departure, Jessika remarked: "This was going to be my last year to apply and I feel chuffed that I made it to the tent. I have met some incredible talented inspiring bakers so it's not all bad." The Great British Bake Off: An Extra Slice continues on Fridays at 8pm on Channel 4.
