A new Batman movie has been released, and the project marks a first for DC’s Dark Knight. Fans are waiting for a new live-action Batman actor to be cast for James Gunn’s DCU. Whoever takes on the role, with popular names including Jensen Ackles, Brandon Sklenar, Nate Mann, and more, will likely debut in Batman’s The Brave and the Bold movie.
Before then, multiple Batman movies and spinoffs will be released. One of those is Robert Pattinson’s return as the Dark Knight in director Matt Reeves’ The Batman 2, which will arrive in theaters in 2027. However, an animated Batman movie has beaten Pattinson’s return and the DCU Batman film, being released in 2025, and it is a fresh addition to Batman’s mythos.
DC’s New Batman Movie Is Now Available
DC has just released Aztec Batman: Clash of Empires. The new Batman movie does not follow Bruce Wayne’s version of the Dark Knight, nor does it take place in Gotham City. Instead, the animated film merges Batman lore and characters with Aztec culture, resulting in a unique experience. The film’s main character is Yohualli Coatl (Jay Hernandez), with the story being set in the Aztec Empire.
Aztec Batman: Clash of Empires is now out on digital in the US through Amazon Prime Video, AppleTV, Google Play, Fandango at Home, and more. The movie also has a physical release set to happen on September 23. It will be available on 4K Ultra HD, Blu-ray, and DVD for purchase online or at major retailers.
As of the time of writing, an HBO Max release date has yet to be announced. Before arriving on digital in the US, DC’s new Batman movie was released in theaters in Mexico on September 18. Several villains from DC Comics appear in the film with reimagined costumes and backstories. The Batman movie is also R-rated, which live-action films have yet to do.
Why Aztec Batman: Clash of Empires Is Worth Watching
The main reason Aztec Batman: Clash of Empires is worth watching is due to how the film introduces a unique take on Batman and his cast of characters. Bruce Wayne might be an extremely popular character, but many of his comic book stories have already been adapted into animated form or into live-action. Aztec Batman uses the hero’s legacy in a totally new way.
