Axarquia set to boom with historic 2026 government investments

Axarquia is about to enter a new phase of development. The Andalusian government has earmarked historic investments for 2026, signalling a clear commitment to improving healthcare, education, and infrastructure across the region. With over €737 million flowing into Malaga province, Axarquía is set to benefit from a mix of modernisation projects and long-awaited upgrades. Health takes centre stage Top of the list are healthcare facilities. Rincon de la Victoria will receive €2 million for a new health centre, while Nerja is set for a €1 million upgrade to its own. Smaller projects include a new clinic in the village of Algarrobo. These investments promise faster, closer, and more efficient care for the local population, and signal the Junta’s long-term focus on well-being as a cornerstone of regional development. Schools and learning Education is also a priority for Axarquia. A €9 million injection will go into the new IES Parque Victoria in Rincon de la Victoria, while expansions are planned for CEIP Enrique Ramos in Algarrobo. Though some projects lack exact budgets, like reforms to IES Reyes Católicos in Velez-Malaga or the unification of CEIP Custodio Puga and Blas Infante in Torre del Mar, the focus for 2026 is very clear: better schools, more opportunities, and communities that can thrive for generations. Infrastructure and connectivity Transport projects are also on the line and they aim to reduce bottlenecks and improve safety. The long-discussed upgrade of the A-356 between Velez-Malaga and El Trapiche will finally be draughted after 15 years of waiting. Improvements are also planned for the A-7206 from Algarrobo to Competa, plus a transport hub in Nerja. Water supply connections and repairs, along with enhancements to the Caleta de Velez fish market, show that even smaller-scale investments are on the agenda. Looking to the future Of course, Axarquia isn’t just about roads and buildings. In fact, it’s about creating a sustainable, thriving region. The new SAE office in Torrox, plus the future judicial headquarters, signal a commitment to local services and jobs. In short, 2026 could be the year that Axarquia proves it’s ready to grow. Not just in infrastructure, but as a vibrant, liveable region. Read here more news from Axarquia.
