Amazon Web Services (AWS) on Thursday launched its AWS Marketplace in India—a digital platform where businesses can discover, buy, and deploy software solutions on the cloud. With this expansion, customers in India can now make transactions in Indian Rupees (INR) instead of foreign currency, reducing costs and simplifying compliance. Indian software providers, including Independent Software Vendors (ISVs) and Consulting Partners, will be able to list and sell their products locally with simplified tax procedures, the company said in a statement. Some of the major players already on board include Cisco, CrowdStrike, Deloitte, eMudhra, Freshworks, Sarvam, Salesforce, and IBM. Globally, the AWS Marketplace offers over 30,000 software listings across 70+ categories—including security, artificial intelligence (AI), DevOps, and data analytics. According to AWS, the service can help customers save time and money, citing a 377% return on investment and significantly faster procurement cycles for businesses that use it. Ruba Borno, Vice President of Global Specialists and Partners at AWS, said the move will “eliminate traditional procurement friction” by allowing local currency transactions and smoother compliance. “This will give Indian customers faster access to cutting-edge technologies, and Indian sellers a proven pathway to scale their solutions,” she said. Several Indian firms—including Observe.AI, Swiggy, and Tata Consultancy Services (TCS)—already use AWS Marketplace to streamline their software procurement processes. The launch comes amid India’s fast-growing cloud market, projected by IDC to surpass $17 billion by 2027. As more Indian companies adopt hybrid and multi-cloud models, local currency transactions are expected to make enterprise technology purchases more seamless and compliant with domestic tax regulations. AWS joins other global tech firms localising their operations in India to tap into its expanding digital economy and growing pool of SaaS (Software as a Service) providers.
