Avril Lavigne‘s ex-fiancé Mod Sun basically manifested their relationship. The 38-year-old musician, whose real name is Derek Smith, appeared on an episode of Bunnie Xo’s Dumb Blonde Podcast that reaired on Thursday (Nov. 6), where he opened up about his romance and eventual breakup with Lavigne. During the episode, Mod revealed that he’d always been a fan of Lavigne before meeting her and even had her posters on his wall when he was young. “I’ve known who she was since I was a very young kid in Minnesota. I 100% had her poster on my wall,” Mod said, agreeing when Bunnie suggested that he manifested the relationship. 🎬 SIGN UP for Parade’s Daily newsletter to get the latest pop culture news & celebrity interviews delivered right to your inbox 🎬 The singer went on to discuss the early days of his romance with Lavigne, sharing that they first met through a record label when they were working on music. They went on to release their song “Flames” in January 2021, long before they went public with their relationship. “It was lovely. She was a true talent being around. I write and produce songs for other artists, so it was amazing coming up with an idea and seeing someone so f–king talented sing it,” Mod shared. The couple quickly “dove in” to the relationship and ended up moving in together during the pandemic. Mod later co-wrote several songs on Lavigne’s 2022 Love Sux album — and the pair ended up getting engaged that year too. Ultimately, they called it quits before they made it to the altar, splitting in 2023. Regardless of ending things, Mod says they had an incredible influence on one another. “We’re two different people, but I think I had a great influence on her,” Mod said. “I think she couldn’t have had a more wonderful influence on me from the side of [helping me] grow up. Like now, I’m very secure of who I am,” he concluded. Hear all that Mod Sun had to say below.
