Avon leads Lorain County in Ohio’s School Report Cards; Lorain ranks last statewide

COLUMBUS, Ohio — The Ohio Department of Education and Workforce has released its 2025 school report cards, providing a comprehensive evaluation of district performance across the state. In Lorain County, the results reveal significant disparities in educational outcomes.
Avon Local Schools distinguished itself as the only district in Lorain County to earn a perfect 5-star overall rating, with Avon Lake City Schools and Oberlin City School District followed closely, earning 4.5 stars.
However, Lorain City School District received the lowest ranking among all 607 districts in the state with a 2-star overall score. Elyria City School District also earned a 2-star overall rating, ranking 580th statewide.
The state report cards are designed to highlight both progress and areas for improvement. Districts are rated from 1 to 5 stars, in half-star increments, across six categories: achievement, progress, gap closing, early literacy, graduation and college, career, workforce and military readiness. The overall rating represents a weighted combination of these components.
A 3-star rating indicates a district is meeting state standards, while 4 stars means it is exceeding expectations and 5 stars signals it is significantly exceeding state standards. Districts rated below 3 stars are identified as needing additional support to improve student outcomes.
