AVM Pushes Fresh FritzOS 8.20 Test Versions Ahead of Final Rollout

Fritz (formerly AVM) continues to promote the development of Fritzos 8.20. There are now a number of fresh laboratory updates. Although they are still test versions, the way to the final release is clearly recognizable.

Fritzos 8.20 laboratory update

Fritz again adds new trial versions for a total of four routers. The Fritzbox 5590 Fiber received version 8.10-124568 on September 17th. Curious: The release notes initially remained empty – what changes are included was simply forgotten. It remains to be seen whether AVM is still sufficient.

However, there was more to learn about three other models: A little later the stragglers Fritzbox 7690, 6690 Cable and 6670 Cable in the update channel followed. Here the laboratory update brings two concrete improvements:

System: Fixed errors in which the point “connected” in the surface under “Network connections” was partially displayed twice.Smart Home: Stability improved.

Between experiment and finals

Even if it is still a matter of laboratory versions, the updates indicate the early end of the test phase, it is all about the finishing touches. It is currently about minor corrections, the basic development work seems to be ready.

The test versions can be installed as usual via the user interface (“fritz.box” → System → Update → Laboratory firmware) or via the Laboratory download page of Fritz GmbH. Incidentally, there are no official support for the experimental laboratory versions; The updates are aimed primarily at users who want to try out new functions and improvements at an early stage.
