Avian flu detected for first time since April

The bird flu has once again hit Minnesota. MPR News reports “animal health officials have detected bird flu in a turkey flock in Redwood County, the first new confirmed case of highly pathogenic avian influenza in Minnesota poultry since April. … The state Board of Animal Health said the flock of about 20,000 turkey toms experienced an unusually high number of deaths.”

A Minnesota music icon is joining the Farm Aid lineup. KARE 11 says “according to Farm Aid’s organizers, Bob Dylan will join friends Willie Nelson, Neil Young, Dave Matthews and others on stage at Huntington Bank Stadium at the University of Minnesota’s campus Saturday, Sept. 20.” The concert, hosted in a different city each year, will raise money for farmers across the country.

Minnesotans testified this week in front of a state fraud committee to air their concerns about the Department of Human Services. KSTP writes “two members of the public were called by the House Fraud Prevention and State Agency Oversight Policy Committee Tuesday morning, to testify about their experience reporting allegations of fraud to the [DHS.]“

As hotter temperatures return for the week, so will the rain. Bring Me The News reports “storms [are] possible later [Wednesday] into [Thursday] and Friday especially in waves but no washouts.” Temperatures will be cooler this weekend but still above normal.
