The Adelaide Advertiser reports the employee shared an article about the shooting and wrote: “Amongst all Gaza, Ukraine, Trump news, sometimes something wonderful happens.”
SA Police has confirmed to NewsWire the post is now subject to a Police Complaints and Discipline Act investigation.
The same profile commented about the shooter that “dude has a steady hand”, adding a fist emoji.
“SAPOL are aware of the social media posts, and they are now subject to an investigation under the Police Complaints and Discipline Act,” a spokesperson said.
“No further comment will be made.”
The Facebook account allegedly responsible for the posts was visible to the public as of Tuesday morning.
The profile picture of the man’s account was changed to a cartoon image calling for civil rights, workers’ compensation and pensions, health insurance and unemployment insurance on Tuesday morning.
Following Mr Kirk’s death last week, a video of one of the political figure’s most-shared statements was shared on the account.
“I think, I think it’s worth it. I think it’s worth it to have a cost of, unfortunately, some gun deaths every single year so that we can have the Second Amendment to protect our other God-given rights. That is a prudent deal. It is rational,” Mr Kirk said in the video.
The 31-year-old MAGA commentator was speaking to a large crowd at Utah Valley University on September 10 when he was shot in the neck. Graphic footage of the incident quickly circulated online.
The FBI says DNA at the scene matches that of suspect Tyler Robinson, 22. A towel wrapped around a sniper rifle and a screwdriver, both recovered from the scene, match with the suspect, FBI director Kask Patel told US media in the early hours of Tuesday, Australian time.
Mr Robinson is expected to be charged with murder later this week.
