An Australian bodybuilder has been saved by the kindness of complete strangers after he lost three litres of blood during a routine surgery in Bali.
Jackson Peos, 30, from Perth, underwent a digestive procedure at an Indonesian hospital in June after moving to the holiday island.
Initially, it had appeared the bodybuilder and gym owner had recovered from the surgery, but within days he was coughing up blood and in excruciating pain.
Mr Peos was rushed to Bali International Hospital where doctors discovered he was bleeding internally and suffering from severe thrombosis, which occurs when blood clots begin to block veins and arteries.
He lost three litres of blood and his organs began to shut down.
‘One of the doctors actually told me that I should prepare for my final goodbyes,’ he told Seven News.
Doctors told Mr Peos a lifesaving blood transfusion was looking unlikely as the supply of his rare blood type – O-negative – had been depleted.
Mr Peos’ loved ones quickly made a desperate appeal for blood donations.

‘A friend with an uncommon blood type is in need of blood donors to stabilise his condition,’ they wrote on the appeal.
In less than five hours, three litres of Type O-negative blood had been donated, with 28 donors giving blood by the end of the ordeal.
‘I’m so grateful for the generosity of the Australian people to do that,’ Mr Peos said.
Experts have since claimed the bodybuilder’s first surgery was botched.
Australian doctors said that even with corrective procedures, Mr Peos will require further monitoring for lasting health complicatios.
In response, the Balinese hospital insisted he had received prompt, professional treatment and blamed the Indonesian Red Cross for the low blood supplies.
Mr Peos said he is just thankful to be alive.
‘I love Bali for many reasons, but my trust in their medical system has just been shattered,’ he said.

The bodybuilder has since undergone five surgeries to address complications of the initial surgery and admitted he was having a hard time coming to grips with his life in and out of hospital.
‘Lots of bad things have happened to me lately and sometimes I get angry,’ he said in a recent post to Instagram.
‘I have this drain in my wound that wraps through my anal passage, and I have to wear a fanny pack all the time.’
He said, while he tried to make light of the situation, he has lost his ability to live freely and his ‘manhood’.
He is now awaiting his next procedures.
‘The surgeons say I can’t have my next surgery for possibly months,’ he said.
