Auburn parting ways with Hugh Freeze

AUBURN, Ala. (WAFF) - Auburn has fired head coach Hugh Freeze during his third season, per multiple news outlet reports. Defensive Coordinator DJ Durkin will reportedly serve in an interim role until a new head coach is appointed. The move follows Auburn’s 10-3 loss to Kentucky. The Tigers drop to 4-5 and 1-5 in SEC play. Auburn sits in the bottom three of the conference. Through his three seasons at the helm of the program, Freeze has an overall record of 15-19 and 6-16 in conference play. 4 out of 5 of Auburn’s conference losses have been decided by one score, including the loss to Kentucky. Freeze had two quarterbacks compete for the starting position ahead of the Kentucky game. Ashton Daniels won the job, but Jackson Arnold also took the field against Kentucky. The two quarterbacks combined for just 123 passing yards, no touchdowns, and an interception thrown by Daniels. Kentucky also notched seven sacks on Saturday. In the presser Saturday night, Freeze said he is concerned about the confidence of his team following every loss this season. “They deserve better results than we’ve gotten this year,” Freeze said. “That’s sickening and frustrating and heartbreaking.” Freeze is the fourth SEC coach to be fired this season.
