ATP Hangzhou Day 1 Predictions Including Learner Tien vs Mariano Navone

The second edition of the Lynk & Co Hangzhou Open will start off the 2025 Asian swing of the ATP Tour. The draw is packed with top players, including Andrey Rublev and Daniil Medvedev. Three first-round matches are scheduled on Day 1, and as always, we at LWOT will offer predictions for all the matches. But who will advance?

ATP Hangzhou Day 1 Predictions

Nishesh Basavareddy vs Gauthier Onclin (Qualifying)

Head-to-Head: first meeting

Nishesh Basavareddy played a flawless match in the first round of qualifying and will be the heavy favorite against Gauthier Onclin. Basavareddy has been in good form recently and will be looking to add more tour-level wins this week. Onclin, on the other hand, will make his ATP 250 debut if he wins this match. I am leaning towards the American to build on his form and enter the main draw.
Prediction: Basavareddy in 2

Luca Nardi vs Aleksandar Kovacevic

Head-to-Head: first meeting

Luca Nardi lost in the first round here last season and will be looking to improve on that. His run at the Cincinnati Open is an indicator that he has the level to make a deep run in these smaller tournaments. Aeksandar Kovacevic is a tough first-round opponent and will test Nardi to his limits. However, Kovacevic has won just 1 of his last 5 matches and will be short on confidence. Nardi must take full advantage and get the win.
Prediction: Nardi in 3

Adrian Mannarino vs Yibing Wu

Head-to-Head: Mannarino 0-1 Wu

Adrian Mannarino has done a great job of saving his season in the last two months and is playing some of his best tennis in a long time. If he keeps the momentum, he will be hard to stop this week. Yibing Wu will cherish playing in front of the home crowd and knows how to beat the Frenchman. However, if Mannarino is on his game, he will like the pace coming off Wu’s racquet and use it to redirect and rush the Chinese. This should be a close contest, but I am going with the veteran.
Prediction: Mannarino in 3

Learner Tien vs Mariano Navone

Head-to-Head: Tien 0-1 Navone

Learner Tien will be eyeing revenge for the Indian Wells loss earlier this season, and the faster courts here should work in his favour. Tien’s last four losses have come against players ranked higher than him, which suggests he is beating players he should. Both these players cover the courts exceptionally well and are great in defense. The first serve will be crucial in this match, and Tien has the advantage in that department. The 19-year-old also has the added variety to break Navone’s rhythm.
Prediction: Tien in 3
