Atlantic City to rename street after Rita and Anthony Mack

ATLANTIC CITY — The city is renaming an Arctic Avenue block in the heart of Midtown after business owners and philanthropists Rita and Anthony Mack.
City Council unanimously adopted an ordinance Sept. 17 to rename a one-block stretch of Arctic Avenue in the area of Tanger Outlets The Walk “Rita and Anthony Mack Avenue.”
The renamed block lies between Arkansas and Michigan avenues and is home to one of the two McDonald’s restaurants the couple operated here.
During an August meeting, when informed of the street renaming, Anthony Mack said he and his wife found a perfect home in Atlantic City and just wanted to help others.
“When we came to this great city of Atlantic City in June 1986, we had no idea what to expect, but this city embraced us with open arms and supported us,” Anthony Mack told council. “We tried to show our appreciation by giving back.”
Before retiring in 2024, the Macks operated the franchises for 38 years while donating their time and money to local causes.
The Macks have served on numerous community boards for AtlantiCare Health System, the city’s Special Improvement District, the Boy Scouts of America, St. Monica’s Roman Catholic Church, the Ronald McDonald House of Southern New Jersey, the African American Heritage Museum of Southern New Jersey, the Atlantic City Convention and Visitors Authority, and the Stockton University Foundation.
The couple also have established scholarships for Tennessee State University, where they met while attending, Atlantic Cape Community College and Stockton, where they were recently recognized for donating $150,000 to create a new scholarship through their A&R Mack Foundation.
