Atlantic City superfan gets corner named after him

ATLANTIC CITY — The city is honoring one of its high school’s greatest sports fans.
At its Sept. 17 meeting, City Council voted to rename the corner of Texas and Fairmount avenues “John Bucci Corner.”
Bucci died in June 2024 at 60. He was a fixture at Vikings’ sporting events.
Bucci — everyone called him John-John — remembered everyone’s birthday and their biggest games.
The 1985 Atlantic City High School graduate knew everybody’s phone numbers, even those of players and coaches from other schools, as well as reporters. If he couldn’t get to an Atlantic City game, he would call reporters to get the final score.
Bucci worked as a special education teacher’s aide at ACHS.
The Atlantic City sports community came together in 2021 to celebrate Bucci and support him at Ducktown Tavern and Liquors after Bucci was jumped outside the Atlantic City Police Athletic League in April 2021. He had just finished working his late afternoon/evening shift at the PAL and was waiting for a taxi to take him to his home in the city’s Ducktown neighborhood.
