Asus Vivobook S16 Review: Decent Daily Driver With Performance Limitations

Laptops are pretty much a necessity these days, and with advancements in performance and capabilities, everyone wants a powerful machine, even if it is a daily driver. Now, Asus has some decent offerings that serve the purpose of being used daily, or a little more than that. And this is where the Asus Vivobook S16 comes into the picture. The Laptop is available in the Indian market at a price of Rs 88,990 and offers a 16-inch OLED display. That's not it, the machine boasts an Intel Ultra Core 7 processor paired with 16GB RAM. It could be dubbed perfect for all those who are looking for a device that charges fast, has a lightning-paced processing speed, and an immersive display as well. I've been using the device for a couple of weeks as a daily driver. From watching videos, writing blogs, to running basic games, I tried to test the machine on all fronts. That being said, here are my two cents on how the laptop performs and feels like in different aspects, followed by, of course, a verdict answering whether it is a bang for your bucks or not. Asus VivoBook S16 Review: Design Starting with the design and build, the Asus Vivobook S16 packs a metallic design statement that offers a close-to-premium look. However, the weight of the laptop, 1.7Kg, is on the higher side, and a full day of carrying it on your shoulders is definitely a task. Apart from that, the moment you open the lid, a gigantic touch pad welcomes you. On practical terms, it works wonders as you have more than enough area to scroll and move the cursor, which makes basic operations super smooth on the device. Another feature that I loved about the touch pad is that you can also control the volume (using the right edge) and brightness (using the left edge), just move your fingers and voila. Apart from that, the laptop packs a 180-degree hinge, which makes streaming for night-owls like us pretty convenient, even while lying on the couch. And for the ports, Asus has nailed it this time by offering the right amount of them, including two USB A 3.2 Gen ports, two USB C 3.2 Gen 1 ports, an HDMI port, and a 3.5mm audio jack. So, apart from carrying the device single-handedly, you will not feel any issues in the same based on the chassis and design front. Asus VivoBook S16 Review: Keyboard To be honest, I have mixed reactions towards the keyboard of the device. The key travel is sufficient to save you from typos here and there. And the numeric pad saves the day for all those who are habitual of it. The suppressed arrow keys could give you some tough times, but can't say it's not manageable. Plus, you also get enough palm rest area to comfortably work on long projects. The Keystrokes are not noisy, which could be great if you are using the device in a professional setup. It also features a Co-Pilot key that can be used to trigger the AI model. The backlight of the keyboard has three levels and you can choose either of them based on your requirement. At the time of using the laptop in a dark room, the key visibility was good, and I faced no such issues while finding keys. Asus VivoBook S16 Review: Display The Asus Vivobook S16 brings a 16-inch OLED panel with up to 144Hz refresh rate. The screen-to-body ratio of the device takes the viewing experience to another level. If you are a web series or movie buff, then you are going to love the output of the laptop. I tested it by running YouTube Videos, watched Better Call Saul (yep, was pending from a long time), and felt super immersed after a very long time. The 16:10 Aspect Ratio of the laptop gave more space to articles and documents, which is always a plus. At the top bezel of the display, we get to see a 1080p Full HD IR camera bundled with a physical privacy shutter. What's more is that the device also supports Windows Hello facial recognition, goodbye to typing in passwords every time. Asus VivoBook S16 Review: Performance And Battery The Asus Vivobook S16 is powered by an Intel Core Ultra 7 processor, clubbed with Intel Arc graphics. It also packs a 16GB LPDDR5X RAM along with PCIe 4.0 SSD storage. Coming to practical usage, the device’s performance is impressive in terms of handling daily tasks or professional work that doesn't require you to run heavy video editing or other software. At the time of practical usage, the device worked seamlessly with more than a dozen Chrome tabs, YouTube playback, and a lot more. Moreover, I used it to play light games as well like Asphalt 9, MultiVersus, and the laptop was able to run them without any hassle. But the cooling fan definitely takes a toll while playing games for long hours. Coming to the battery life, the Asus Vivobook S16 laptop gets a 70Wh battery with fast charging support. The device took around an hour and 15 to 20 minutes to get fully fueled up. And as for backup, at light usage, the device could go on for around 7.5 hours on average. But don't expect the same at the time of gaming or streaming. Also, the battery drain speed depends heavily on the brightness - high brightness is equal to quick battery drainage in this case. Benchmark test results -Geekbench AI Score: Single Precision Score - 2957, Half Precision Score - 1299, Quantized Score - 5365 -Geekbench Score: 26,273 -AnTuTu Score: 21,73,015 Asus Vivobook S16 Review: Verdict The Asus Vivobook S16 is a powerful laptop that deserves to be your daily driver. Whether you talk about comfort, performance, or even battery life, the laptop passes with flying colours in every domain. There are a bunch of more premium and gaming-heavu laptops in the market but, if you are someone who is looking for a decent and reliable machine that can assure durability and get all your regular day's work done, then the Asus Vivobook S16 is for you. Apart from heavy video editing and gaming, the laptop can handle almost anything, and the OLED display works as a cherry on the cake.
